How every treatment here starts

Your skin type is a measurement, not a guess.

Most people have been told their skin type by somebody selling them something, or worked it out from how their face felt one morning. The Skin Read replaces that with a number. A set of questions about your skin and your history, then a meter that measures the oil, the elasticity and the water actually in it.

YOU LEAVE WITH
Your real skin type, what it needs next, and what you can skip

The meter is the part that changes the answer. Skin that feels oily is often dehydrated skin producing oil to compensate — treat it as oily and you make it worse. Skin that looks fine on the surface can be reading low on elasticity, which is the thing that shows up as slackness five years later. What your skin looks like it is doing and what it is doing are two different questions.

Then comes the history: sun, past treatments, what you use at home, medication, anything medical. Half of what gets adjusted in a treatment plan is what is happening at home rather than in the room.

Your practitioner explains what she is seeing and why it points to one treatment over another — before anything begins, not after. If what you booked is not what your skin needs, you are told.

It is on your record

Every read is logged, including the strength of anything used. Your next visit starts from that record rather than from zero, and you never have to re-explain your skin history to a new face. Two visits three months apart can look quite different for exactly this reason.

FIG. 01 What the read looks at

Six things, and they do not all sit at the same depth.

A read is not one observation. It is six, and they live at different depths in the skin.

FIG. 01 What the read looks at

Each of the six is assessed at the depth it actually lives at — which is why a barrier problem and a pigment problem never get the same protocol.
